Our Story: The Heart Behind the Creamery

Black Radish Creamery was born from the shared passion and partnership of Anne and John Reese, whose journey together blends artistry, craftsmanship, and an enduring love of good food.

Anne grew up on a small family farm, where her appreciation for quality ingredients began with the animals she helped raise as a child. That early connection to the land inspired her lifelong dedication to authenticity, nature, and sustainability. John, who grew up in the heart of Amish country, was equally shaped by a community built on local craftsmanship and honest, seasonal ingredients.

Their paths led them to New York, where they pursued their culinary ambitions together—Anne as an in-house photographer and media archives manager at the Culinary Institute of America, and John as a student refining his craft and earning both his AOS and BPS degrees in culinary arts. Their time in the culinary world deepened their appreciation for food as both craft and culture.

John later earned a Certificate in Cheesemaking from the Vermont Institute of Artisanal Cheese and became an American Cheese Society Certified Cheese Professional (CCP). Together, Anne and John apprenticed with cheesemakers in Vermont and Wisconsin, honing their skills and expanding their understanding of the craft. Both are also Level 1 Sommeliers, bringing an added dimension of pairing expertise to their work.

Blending Anne’s artistic vision with John’s culinary and cheesemaking expertise, they returned to Ohio to create Black Radish Creamery—a celebration of craftsmanship, flavor, and the enduring beauty of handcrafted food.
